Affordable Housing Project – Community Consultation

August 2019

Following the publication of our Community Development Plan 2018 – 2022 Tomintoul & Glenlivet Development Trust has been working with Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust (HSCHT) to assess the demand and need for affordable housing in Tomintoul.

In April 2019 we completed three surveys and produced two reports on the likely need and demand for affordable housing in Tomintoul.

We have been working with The Scottish Land Fund to assess the viability of the former Secondary School Site in Tomintoul for an affordable housing development and our proposal has the support of SLF, strategic partners and the site owner.

We have sought assurance from HSCHT and other Development Trusts that have developed affordable housing that it is worthwhile and that the community will determine allocations policy and see benefits from the development.

We have identified funding for the site purchase and a significant portion of the capital investment to complete the project.

The school site has many advantages including existing services, availability, permission for development but there also challenges associated with the site including significant demolition costs.

To progress our proposal, we need to be able to demonstrate community support for the project and have organised information events on the following dates.

Tomintoul & Glenlivet Discovery Centre 11thSeptember 2019 7pm

Glenlivet Hall 17thSeptember 2019 7pm

There will also be a permanent exhibition of the consultation material in the Discovery Centre from Monday 2ndSeptember 2019 and the consultation will close on 30thSeptember 2019.
