Following the £520k refurbishment funded by Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Cairngorms LEADER and managed by Tomintoul & Glenlivet Development Trust, Tomintoul & Glenlivet Discovery Centre opened to the public on the 30th March and was officially opened by Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire Claire Russell on the 4th April.

The opening which was attended by 70 friends and supporters of TGDT, celebrated 18 months of hard work by volunteers, staff and contractors to realise the ambition of a modern visitor centre owned and run by the community.

As we approach the end of our first season we have welcomed nearly 10 000 visitors, providing information about businesses and attractions in our area and sharing with them some of the stories and objects that make our area so special. The centre has provided a community resource for local groups to meet, a venue for events such as TGDT’s ‘Discover…’ series of evening talks as well as exhibition space for both local artists and projects to display their work. Feedback from visitors about the newly refurbished centre has been extremely positive and is testament to the fantastic staff and volunteers who help to run the centre.
